Find band members

If you’ve been playing music for quite some time, chances are you’ve toyed with the idea of joining a band at one point or another.  After all, what’s not to love about being in a band? Music, camaraderie, and fun – all wrapped up in one!  But for many musicians who long to join a band, there’s one big reason they never will, and that’s because they don’t know where to look to find potential band members.

If you’re in this same predicament, don’t worry. Your local music experts have the answers! From teaching music lessons in Scottsdale to holding live music events in Phoenix, Scottsdale Music Academy has the 411 on all things music…including the best places to find band members to jam with.

Here’s our list of the best resources to use when looking for band members.

1. Social Media

Believe it or not, social media is more than just selfie central. It can actually be a great tool to find band members. Use Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to get the word out that you’re looking to join a band. More than likely, one of your online friends will know a musician who might be interested, and the rest (as the say) will be history!

2. Local Music Scene

Get involved with your local music scene. Attend an open mic night in Phoenix or reach out to a music school like Scottsdale Music Academy to connect with local musicians and find others to collaborate with. Go to where the action is at and you’ll be sure to find skilled band members who are just as passionate and excited about music as you are.

3. Classifieds

Places like the classifieds section of a newspaper or the community section of Craigslist sometimes have “musicians wanted” ads. But to give yourself a deeper pool of potential band mates to choose from, you should also check out some online sites that are specifically designed to help musicians find one another. Some of our favorite sites include BandMix, Join-A-Band and MusoFinder. Browse through hundreds of ads from bands of all types looking for members or create your own ad.  Either way, you’ll find band members in no time!

4. Group Music Lessons

You probably know about SMA’s private music lessons, but did you know we also offer group music lessons for Scottsdale and Phoenix residents? That’s right – with our group music lessons in Scottsdale you’ll get the chance to meet like-minded musicians and learn with them in a group setting. Not only is this a perfect way to find potential band members, it’s also a great way to gain more music knowledge and advance your skills. In other words, it’s a win-win on all fronts!

No matter what resource or resources you end up using to find band members, know that finding good band members is a bit like finding a romantic partner. The search may take longer than you like, but it’s all worth it in the end!
