There’s very little that a musician values as much as their instrument, except, of course, their cellphone…and for good reason. Cellphones not only help us stay connected on the go, they can also save us time, keep us up to date, and entertain us endlessly. But, for musicians, the benefits of cellphones don’t stop there. Just browse the app store and you’ll find a whole host of apps specifically created to help make a musician’s life a little bit easier. Whether you’re a music maven or you’re taking guitar lessons in Phoenix for the first time, you’re guaranteed to find an app (or two or three) designed for you and your music needs.
While we at Scottsdale Music Academy may be best known by Phoenix and Scottsdale residents for our guitar lessons, we’re also avid app connoisseurs. Here’s a list of our all-time favorite apps for musicians.
1. Songsterr Tabs & Chords
Available on both the iPhone and Android, Songsterr Tabs & Chords gives you access to 500,000 guitar, bass and drum tabs and chords. Learning to play popular songs has never been easier thanks to this handy-dandy app which allows you to slow down audio playback to your own speed of learning.
2. Vocal Ease
Never stress over reaching that high note again! Describe as a “portable warmup studio,” Vocal Ease helps prep a singer’s voice for use through a series of warm up exercises taught by renowned vocal trainer Arnold McCuller. Even if you’re already taking voice lessons in Phoenix or elsewhere, this vocal training tool will help keep you in singing shape at all times.
3. Metronome
The name says it all. This convenient app gives musicians all the perks of a metronome without having to physically drag one with them wherever they go. With the Metronome app, mastering rhythm is easy due to its features which allow users to mark time, set and change tempo, and control the number of beats and accent beats.
4. Tuner – gStrings
While mainly known as a guitar tuner, gStrings will help you tune any and all string instruments. This Android app is a chromatic tuner that measures sound pitch and intensity and gives you a visual display of how far or near you are to the note you’re aiming for. Whether you use it at your next guitar lesson in Phoenix or to prepare for a gig in front on hundreds, you can rest easy knowing that you’ll never play out of tune again.
So what are you waiting for? Power up that smartphone and check out your app store to find the perfect app to help take your musical talents to the next level!
